You've probably heard a lot about Colleen Hoover in the past couple of years.
Her name is everywhere if you're into books or watch TikTok or Instagram Reels.
Her books went viral with female readers, and people were raving about them and working their way through the different series and lists of them.
I tried reading one (I am on book number 75 for this year myself, so I like books), and I couldn't make it past the third chapter. It was NOT for me. And that's ok.
A lot of people couldn't believe I didn't like it. I didn't like the style or the content of it; not my thing. I'm picky when it comes to novels, and I know what I like most of the time, but I'm willing to try things anyway.
I read as my wind down and relaxation. It clears my mind entirely and allows me to check out so I can slow down for sleep. If I have time off or am on vacation, I usually have a book to read (or ten).
The point here is just because something is at a viral level of popularity; it doesn't have to be for you. Don't feel like you have to be influenced by the crowd to read or do anything that doesn't work for you.
I don't feel bad at all that I didn't like this author and her books; my opinion is not keeping her up at night or impacting her income. I'm not her target audience.
There are two reasons this is important for YOU. The first is that you are allowed to like what you like. The second is that not everyone will like you or what you do for a business, and that's ok…move on to those that do.
You'll find your “tribe,” your group of people you resonate with, and they will be important to you.
